INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS COMMISSION

Overview of the Commission and its Work

Establishment
 
The New Jersey Intergovernmental Relations Commission was created in 1964 by the New Jersey Legislature (N.J.S.A. 52:9B-1 et seq.) The Commission's function is to carry forward the participation of New Jersey as a member of the Council of State Governments, both regionally and nationally, to confer with officials of other States and of Federal Government, to formulate proposals for co-operation between this State and the other States, and with the Federal Government, and to organize and maintain governmental machinery for such purposes.
 
Commission Members
 

The New Jersey Intergovernmental Relations Commission shall be composed of 15 members, namely:
The five members of the committee on intergovernmental relations of the Senate.
The five members of the committee on intergovernmental relations of the General Assembly.
Five officials of the State named by the Governor, who shall hold office during the pleasure of the Governor.
The Governor shall be an honorary member of the commission.
